Orea Kriti network, part of the LEADER program
We love it when our work helps to make a difference. Orea Kriti is one of those projects that we think of fondly.
Stimulating meaningful ecotourism, the Orea Kriti network is part of the LEADER program which promotes the livestock farming tradition in Crete through the creation of ‘Educational Farms.’
Besides supporting the farmers and shepherds financially, this program creates visibility for other, less known aspects of Greek tourism.
We created the logo, the visual identity and the website of the Orea Kriti network, as well as the farm route maps and guides. Drawing inspiration from the wood print technique, we used an earth color palette to illustrate typical Cretan landscapes, flora, fauna and the farmers themselves, while involved in traditional agricultural activities.
We received merit at the EBGE Awards 2016 (Greek Graphic Design and Illustration Awards) for our work, but the greatest reward was the opportunity to create designs that encouraged others to meet the shepherds and the environment they work and live in.
The first stage of the program covered the regional units of Heraklion and Lasithi.
Today, five years later, we revisit this project. The program now aims to cover the rest of Crete. We created some additional applications: a paper pen, a hemp canvas tote bag, a banner and a notebook.
