A complete visual identity based on some serious coding
D.TAILS is a Danish eCommerce consulting agency specialized in all things Shopify.
What they asked for was a complete visual identity containing logo and web design that needed to be illustrative of their extensive eCommerce experience.
That’s how we came up with “The Code.”
Basically everything we see online is code and we wanted their visual identity to reflect that, upon first glance.
What is more, we aimed to position D.TAILS as experts in building the foundations of e-commerce success. So we put our ‘programmers’ hat on and we designed the logo and website to embody this fundamental element of the software that most of us use daily and depend on, without ever stopping to actually think about it.
Together with type designer Trine Rask we created a custom typeface to make the website copy appear more code-like.
Naturally, the logo is designed under the same concept.
To recreate the authentic feel, our custom font was inspired by fixed width typography, where letters and characters have the same horizontal space.
Also known as monospaced fonts, they were initially developed for typewriters and were later used in computers. Despite the computer evolution, and the ability to now display a variety of fonts, most code text editors still use a monospaced font as their default typeface.
Additionally to the characteristic format, we added an extra tech touch by focusing on the glyphs often associated with coding language.
The result is a uniquely suited visual identity, logo, typeface, stationery, and website design, that stand out and get right to business.
